"As iron sharpens iron, so a person sharpens his friend".
Brothers and sisters, what trait do you look for in a friend? Is it how the person ‘looks’ or how ‘cool’ he or she dresses or behaves? Simply put, do you place more importance on what the influence of the person’s character and qualities will be on your life? Because the type of friend you keep will define you and the course of your life. The Scripture above (1 Corinthians 10: 13) offers good advice on WHAT TO LOOK FOR and WHAT TO AVOID when choosing friends.
Being around good friends will help improve you. Therefore “The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray (Proverbs 12: 26). This Scripture warns that we should be mindful of the friends we keep. More importantly to be aware of the wicked (foes you call Friend) who has the tendency to bring down the righteous (You). As such it is important to make friends with quality people who will help improve YOU. Does your influence improve others? If not, improve yourself today. It is well!
Conclusion – Let me leave you with this line of thought. Do not take it for granted that you can be close to a bad influence without that influence changing you for the worse. The Scripture warns, “Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits” (1 Corinthians 15: 33) as their influence on you will change you for the worse. As a child of God, you should keep the company that will help prod you into becoming better person in life as ordained by God. Ultimately, your friends should benefit from being around you as much as you too will benefit from being around them!
Prayer – Dear Lord, I pray to surround myself with beneficial friends that I will as well benefit from, in Jesus name, Amen!
